Cartooning
Vaughan has produced lively drawings for all kinds of needs, working as a cartoonist for business magazines and newspapers over the years before she became a full-time painter. She has developed characters for computer software and drawn caricatures for NASA astronauts. This is commercial work on the side, which keeps her drawing and thinking in a satirical way. Prices are based on a fee of $40 per hour from beginning to end. (In general, such commercial art assignments range from 10 to 20 hours.)

Old Bill Vaughan Down at the Print Shop
Collection of Vaughans Printing Co.
Hastings, NE
This is the artist’s gouache Illustration of her father for his 80th Birthday. It depicts her father who was known for working all day and night at the shop. It depicts the famous ghosts that visited him while working late hours and who were in life, his heroes. These characters link to the things her Dad loved – the history of printing and flying. (Vaughan was a pilot in WWII). An image of Bill Clinton who was president at the time, hangs in the back ground with a dart in his nose.
William B. Vaughan or “Bill” owned Vaughans Printers Inc. in Nebraska with his brother Tom for over 50 years which was started as a small town newspaper by his father in 1927. Today, his grand-daughter, Maggie and her husband Jameson Esch, own the shop and keep it running with the help of long-time employee Sylvia DeBoer.
