NATURE FORMS

This series of semi-abstract or narrative paintings are based on the earth, using ecology as a basis for meaning. Sometimes vintage parts or old, collected items are combined with the images, bringing man-made concepts into Vaughan’s modern take on painting. A dichotomy of opposites is often at play between Man and Nature in this series.

BIO-TIQUES

These playful, compact works of art are based on biotic details and nature entities. The word “bio-tique” is a word created by the artist, whereby the idea of biotics (biology) and antiques (the past) come together in a sort of manifesto to environmental issues. Watch for unexpected orbs or hidden earth entities in these small-sized, intimate pieces.

OF THE LAND

Vaughan finds a kind of comfort zone in these representational landforms that keep formal painting in check. Rarely are there figures, buildings or man-made structures in her vistas. Vaughan is drawn to “all earth” compositions in these pieces about the “Sacred Planet.” The goal is animating a cloud, a tree or a meadow to the point of personification as alive as we are. Everything breathes in Vaughan’s land paintings.

QUIRKY COMBOS

The printed fonts and design images on old game boards, crates or various vintage items are of primary interest to the artist in these funky, whimsical pieces that sometimes evolve into functional wall boxes, tables or cabinets. Flat, worn surfaces or panels are used alongside Vaughan’s paintings in these unique constructions that have a quirky aesthetic.
